Help with ship maintenance
Kalmar Nyckel winters in Wilmington, DE, where the crew works to maintain the ship from early November through April. We work seven days a week! You are welcome to volunteer to help with ship's maintenance. There is a lot of scraping, sanding, and varnishing to be done before spring!
Before your first volunteer day, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange for a staff member to be expecting you! You will need to bring the four-page volunteer application with you on the first day. We have formal maintenance days 9am-5pm on Saturdays and Sundays from the second weekend in November through April. After your scheduled first day of maintenance, you can pop in any time to help out on weekends or weekdays.
If you are interested in joining the sailing crew on the ship, please visit our Join the Sailing Crew page. 40 hours of maintenance annually is one of the requirements for sailing crew. We welcome your involvement and look forward to working with you!
Did you know: That Kalmar Nyckel was a "Dutch Pinnace," a new class of gun-armed merchant ship that could also serve as a naval vessel?
