Employment on the ship:
Winter Deck Hands:
There are three winter deck hand positions available for the 2018-2019 winter season, beginning on Thursday, November 1 and going through Saturday, April 14th. Duties include basic ship security, monitoring ship's systems, organizing the volunteers who come to do maintenance, and overseeing the quality of their work. Caulking the deck is a big part of the winter deck hand job, and is a great skill for your resume if you’re planning a career on tall ships! This fall we will be replacing our cat heads, in addition to our normal maintenance tasks. Winter deck hands receive room and board in addition to a stipend. A great opportunity to be a part of a well-run tallship operation. Send resumes to firstname.lastname@example.org by mid-October.
Second Mate/Education Officer:
This position is for the 2019 sailing season: April through early November. The Second Mate/Education Officer is responsible for leading a navigational watch when voyaging and coordinating on-board education programs and/or managing the deck during daysails. Medical skills and bosun skills a plus. All officers on the Kalmar Nyckel work closely with our volunteer crew. A small portion of each day will involve administrative duties. STCW preferred. Send resumes to email@example.com by December 31st.
