The Kalmar Nyckel, a replica 17th Century square-rigged sailing ship, runs educational and public programming in the Mid Atlantic and New England including daysails and offshore voyaging. The professional ship's staff includes: Captain, Chief Mate/Engineer, Second Mate/Education Officer, and Cook during the sailing season, and two winter deck hands and a part time engineer in the winter. To compliment our full time office staff, we hire a seasonal office reservationist during the summer, and some misc. other positions as they are needed.

SHIP POSITIONS for 2018 Sailing Season:
Chief Mate/Engineer: The chief mate is responsible for leading a navigational watch while voyaging, and working with the volunteer crew during day sails and tours. Engineering duties are part of this position as well. A small portion of each day will involve administrative duties. At minimum, STCW required, licensing preferred. Experience on square-rig ships, and in the engine room preferred. This position is for the 2018 sailing season: April through early November. Send resumes to email@example.com by the December 31st.
Second Mate/Education Officer: The Second Mate/Education Officer is responsible for leading a navigational watch when voyaging and coordinating on-board education programs and/or managing the deck during daysails. Bosun skills a plus. All officers on the Kalmar Nyckel work closely with our volunteer crew. A small portion of each day will involve administrative duties. STCW preferred.
