Marketing and Public Relations Director
This new senior level position will be part of the organization’s leadership team and report directly to the Executive Director. This position is a hands-on role that is ideal for a highly-experienced, results-oriented individual with proven traditional and digital marketing experience who is looking for a creative, multi-dimensional, dynamic and exciting opportunity.
The Marketing and Public Relations Director will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing and public relations strategies that will result in increased revenue and brand awareness. This individual must have proven marketing experience across all disciplines and strong customer relationship and business development skills. The candidate should also have had experience in public relations.
Responsibilities will include supporting the following key areas:
· Public Sails and Charters
§ Create an annual marketing and public relations plan for the public sailing season including implementation of market- and site-specific plans (Wilmington, Lewes, Historic New Castle, and 4-5 locations outside of Delaware) that generate ticket sales for “public sails” in each location;
§ Develop and implement a marketing plan and strategies to sell ship charters and private events to businesses and individuals – including prospect identification and follow-up.
· Public Events including Festivals, Lecture Series, Special Events
§ Develop and implement marketing plans; assist in sponsorship development.
· Onsite Event Planning and Strategy
§ Develop event concepts and plans that will motivate prospects to hold their events at the Copeland Maritime Center (e.g., corporate meetings and events, weddings, community organization and individual events.)
· Education Programs
§ Identify and attract additional schools and community-operated summer camps for our experiential shipyard and ship-based programs;
§ Generate awareness of new programs (e.g., STEM and special needs programs);
§ Seek sponsorship opportunities.
· Volunteer Recruitment and Training Programs
§ Identify new sources, avenues and approaches to reach and attract new volunteers for our various programs including crew, Maritime Center docents and administrative volunteers to help with all aspects of operating the organization.
§ Develop marketing programs to grow membership in the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation.
§ Review benefit structure and levels; oversee marketing and retention efforts;
§ Develop a Business Membership Program.
· Public Relations
§ Develop a comprehensive public relations strategy to promote KNF throughout the State of Delaware and this region as well as locations that host Kalmar Nyckel for sails and tours.
· Broad based marketing experience (10+ years)
· Strong results orientation;
· Excellent communication skills with strong writing abilities;
· Excellent web-based and social marketing experience;
· Strong analytical skills with proven budget management expertise;
· Collaborative team player;
· High energy and enthusiasm with strong customer and sales skills;
· Experience with digital marketing including email, SEO, SEM are strongly preferred
