The Kalmar Nyckel has appeared in numerous films over the years, including the 2017 Emmy-nominated documentary, Kalmar Nyckel: The Forgotten Journey. The ship was also featured in the National Geographic Television special, Return of the Ghost Ship and a major BBC documentary, among others.
An accurate and magnificent square-rigged sailing ship, the Kalmar Nyckel is perfect for capturing traditional sailing scenes or pirate action. Our captains and crew are experienced hands working with helicopters, chase boats, and camera teams on the deck and in the rig.
Our team can provide both dockside and underway opportunities for filming and photography. We will help you capture the ship at exciting angles while under sail. We are a uniquely special resource for film production.

Filmed on location with today’s Kalmar Nyckel ship and crew, the documentary depicts the epic adventure that launched the colony of New Sweden in the Delaware Valley in 1638. The film features stunning sailing sequences and commentary from some of the world’s leading experts on North American and Swedish maritime and colonial history.
